Sergio Aguero vows to prove himself for Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Argentina-born Sergio Aguero may have played only two games for Sri Pahang this season, but it was enough for him to earn his first national call-up for Malaysia.

And he wants to repay coach Kim Pan Gon’s faith in him.

“I worked hard to be here so I’m not surprised (by the national call-up). Those that know me know I work hard in training, I couldn’t play the whole year but this coach (Pan Gon) is good because they have their own scout and chose me based on what they saw in training,” said Aguero today.

“It’s very hard without playing minutes but I still train everyday… I have to be ready.

Aguero, 28, who obtained Malaysian citizenship this year, hopes fans will give him a chance to prove himself.

“I’ve been here for six years, had many offers from other countries but I chose to be here. I love this country, its people are nice,” he said.

“I just want the fans to trust the new players who come in, support them. We will try to give everything and 100 per cent for the coach, fans, the country. All we ask for is support from fans.

“I hope to make the final 23-player squad for the AFF Cup, prove myself to Pan Gon and Malaysia.”
