BALING: Kampung Iboi, ground zero of the July 4 massive floods, was once again flooded today, the 11th time since the major disaster that ravaged over 40 villages in Kupang sub-district.
At least 50 homes in Kampung Iboi and six other neighbouring villages were inundated by flood waters in the 6pm incident.
However, none of the victims were evacuated as flood waters subsided after an hour.
Malaysian Civil Defence Force Baling officer Mohd Faizol Ab Aziz said the affected villages were Kampung Bukit Iboi (eight houses); Kampung Bok Bak (houses); Kampung Padang Empang (eight houses); Kampung Dusun (eight houses); Kampung Charok Kapas (four houses); Kampung Hangus (six houses) and Kampung Pak Bong (11 houses).
“The floods occurred following over two hours of heavy rainfall, causing the river to overflow and affect houses located along the riverbank.
“However no flood relief centre was activated as the flash floods subsided,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kupang sub-district village head Badrul Hisham Che Li said this was the 11th time the villages were hit by floods since the July 4 disaster.
“Compared to recent months, this is considered as one of the worst as 50 houses in seven villages were affected,” he said when contacted.
Badrul said the authorities were monitoring the situation in the wake of heavy rainfall throughout the current monsoon season.
